Weekend Wrap-Up

Friday night took my dad out for an early birthday celebration.  We have talked about taking him to Rube's forever and it finally worked out! The kids all had a great time but most importantly I think my dad did too.  We loved spending time with him.   It was the highlight of our weekend! The only bummer part was that my mom wasn't feeling super great so she wasn't able to join.

Saturday I spent my day with Kylee at a volleyball tournament while Kent was at basketball with Kase.  Kael went to Get Air with some friends then later that night Kase had a birthday party sleepover at a friend's house. Kylee had a friend come stay over here too.

Sunday we had a lazy morning then in the afternoon Kase had basketball games. That night Kylee had volleyball practice while the boys watched the WWE Royal Rumble.

Another busy, fun weekend!

Thankful Thursday

I am thankful for snow days, even though they hit different this year since we are all already home together all the time- ha! We did enjoy the foot of snow we got- the piles behind the school were huge!

I'm thankful that Kael is into ping pong.  I love playing against him and he can legitimately beat me.  It's been fun to watch him get better!

We have a busy day and weekend ahead.  Happy Thursday!

Weekend Wrap-Up

Friday night we went back and forth about what we wanted to do. We sort of wanted fun plans, sort of wanted to lay low since everyone was tired from their first week back.  Kase and Kylee hung out with friends after school because we thought Kael had lifting but when we found out he didn't, we decided to go out for dinner at Briarwood to check out their new menu.  We got seated in a fun little spot next to some games and ended up playing cards while we waited for our food.  Came home and watched AFV and honestly, it was a lovely family night.

Saturday we headed to the gym(s)! Kylee had volleyball all day at Ignit.  Her team played tough but ended up losing in the championship.  I was proud of Kylee and how she handled the loss. We grabbed a quick dinner with the team afterwards then Kylee spent the night with her cousin!

Kase also had a couple games on Saturday.  They won a nail biter of a first game, then had a bummer loss for their second game. Kent had a nice text from one of the coaches after the game saying how well Kase had played! So, both Kase and Kylee came home with second place and I'm always thankful for these experiences that teach them not just about sports but lots of life lessons.  Also, are you dying at the picture one of the moms posted after their game?!

Sunday we had a lazy morning.  Watched church online, Kael sat in the hot tub then took a rest since he hadn't gotten any sleep at a sleepover the night before.  Kent and Kase watched a movie and Kylee was still hanging with her cousin. Later Kent and I prepped meals for the week for his lunches- he's been trying hard to eat healthy lately and we have fun cooking together.  We played Mario, watched football, went for a walk in the sunshine and Kylee and I baked a pie. Later Kase had his best buddy's birthday swim party at a hotel in town.   We wrapped up our night with a queso tasting while watching AFV. We also played a little ping pong and mostly just enjoyed our night together!

Ready for our first full week of all three kids being in school since last March! Also ready for the big snow storm that is headed our way!

Thankful Thursday

I'm thankful for lunch and coffee dates with friends.

I'm thankful for time to do so since the kids are back in school full time. I'm also thankful for time to work out, read, clean the house, and catch up on things that I've been meaning to do since last March.

I'm thankful the bigs love going to Junkyard. Kael continues to bring one of his best friends along every week and I love that they both enjoy going.

I'm thankful that Kent has the foresight/intuition to get insurance on my phone.  That darn thing jumps out of my hands and onto the floor more times than I'd like to admit and luckily a cracked screen can be a quick-ish fix.

Happy Thursday!

Weekend Wrap-Up

Long weekends are the best. We got quite a bit of snow Thursday into Friday so there was no school! A little anticlimactic since Kael already had no school that day because of semester tests and Kase and Kylee had virtual days.  But regardless, we were happy to get out and play! The kids made some big, somewhat unconventional snowmen. Ha.  I'm not sure if this is a frog or what?

We spent the day playing games and a couple of Kase's buddies ended up joining us for an impromptu pizza and game night.  Good times.

Saturday Kase had basketball games- he played so tough! Super proud of his efforts.  He team is fun to watch.

That night both Kael and Kylee had sleepovers at friends' houses which was perfect since we didn't get home late from Kase's games.  He had his usual post-tournament meal of Ben's Burgers then fell asleep watching football on the couch with us.

Sunday we went to Keith and Cindy's to celebrate Kellen and Krue's birthdays. Always great to see family!

We had a lazy afternoon watching football and Kylee had volleyball practice.

Monday was no school.  Kent, Kael, Kylee, Dad and I went to look at a house in Panora while Kase had fun with cousins at Grandma's house!

We spent the rest of the afternoon home together and had a nice family movie night.  Back to school full time this week!

Thankful Thursday

The kids are thankful for our new soft serve ice cream machine! We had so much fun trying it out on Monday night.

I'm thankful for friends who gift me queso.  These are my people.

I'm thankful for sunny days- feels like it had been so gloomy around here for a long time and I was glad for some sunshine earlier this week!

I'm thankful Kase's face is starting to heal.  He got a huge scratch on his nose and chin and none of us are really sure how it even happened (possibly while sledding?) but it looked like it was going to leave quite a scar and now it's finally looking better.  Poor buddy is so hard on his head and face.

I'm thankful for a sweet walk with Kase yesterday.  He usually devotes all his precious non-school time to friends or FortNite but I convinced him to go with me since he didn't have much school work yesterday.  He picked our route, brought along his basketball to practice dribbling and when we got home he said, "Mom, that was so much fun. We should do that every day!"

Have a great weekend!

Weekend Wrap-Up

This weekend was a blur of games!

Friday Kent took Kael to Waterfront to try sushi. He said he liked it! Kent is just happy to have at least one adventurous eater out of the bunch and I'm happy when those two can spend time together.

Meanwhile, I finished this awesome and tricky puzzle Kent had given me for Christmas.

Friday night Kylee and I headed to Cedar Falls since she would have early games the next day.  We had a fun dinner out with some of her teammates and the girls swam at the hotel.  Kent let Kase have a buddy come stay the night and they, along with Kael, went to Urban Air.

Kylee's team had a great day! There are 11 girls on the team and I know Kylee was kind of worried about getting much playing time but she got in a lot and made some great plays!

It was fun to run into some teammates from last year.  Yes, these girls are Kylee's age and yes, she looks like a giant!! She has really shot up this year.

Winners!!!

We got home earlier than I had anticipated and Kylee got to go babysit some friends she hadn't seen for awhile.  Kael was at a sleepover and Kent and I had our Edward Jones regional holiday party.  It was a DJ Trivia Zoom which turned out to be so fun! Kent actually was the very first one to answer a question correctly and our team ended up winning.

Sunday morning Kent and Kase left for basketball in Perry.  Kylee was the only one home so we ran to Casey's for donuts and the lady gave them to us for free! We have had such a funny string of things like this happening- on Friday Kase hurt his foot at the trampoline park so they gave us a voucher for a free 2 hour jump! Also on Saturday night Kent ran to pick up McDonald's for the kids and their system was down so they gave Kent all his food for free.  Ha! Now we just need to pay it all forward.

Anyhow, Kylee and I joined the boys in Perry later in the day and got to see the last three of Kase's games.  His team played hard and ended up losing in the semi-finals.  It was their longest day of basketball yet and I was so proud of how well the boys did.

Kylee was such a good big sister, helping entertain the boys between games by playing Tag and Among Us with them.

Tired buddies.

Meanwhile at home Kael took a nap which is unheard of but I found out he had only gotten a half hour of sleep the night before! Then my parents hung out with him and took him out for dinner- so thankful to have family in town as that is a long, kinda boring day for Kael at home while we were gone.

Everyone was pretty tired when they headed off for school this morning.  We could have used one more day in our weekend to recover from all our fun! Ha!
