Thankful Thursday

I'm thankful for this hilarious filter that Kylee used to make Kent look like a baby.  We were laughing SO hard.

I'm thankful, once again, for our village. Our group of friends, neighbors and sports team families have been a great help in this busy season of our life, but most of all our parents! They step in any time we need them, often at the last minute and I'm so thankful we have them to hang out with the kids.

I'm thankful for snowy days. It's so pretty out and I love that my kids love to be outside in it playing!

I'm thankful for our upcoming vacation.  As much as I love the snow, I'm ready for a sunny getaway!

Weekend Wrap-Up

We got an extra long weekend this time because school was cancelled for the kids on Friday.  When we woke up, the weather wasn't terrible.  The kids had fun playing board games and we made coffee cake but then we decided to run to the gym quickly before the storm came.  We made it home just before it started getting really bad! Kylee had gone to Starbucks with friends then back to a friend's house for awhile.

Kent came home from work early, Kylee came back from her friend's house and everyone bundled up to go outside.  The kids were so excited to have Kent's help building up the fort.  Then they all played "The Game" which means running around the house trying not to get tagged before getting safely to the fort. This is a favorite game they made up a long time ago and look forward to a big snowfall every year so they can play again!

Friday night Kylee went with friends to a sleepover.  Kent and I took the boys to a movie.  Kase had fun in the play place before the movie but the movie itself wasn't great.  Regardless, it was a fun way to spend a snowy evening.

Saturday morning Kent and Kael worked to finish up his cabinet.  I'm really impressed and I know Kael is proud of how it turned out.

Later that morning Kase was excited for a special visitor.  His principal's son plays football for the Hawkeyes and we had gotten Kase a jersey with his name and number on it for Christmas.  I saw the principal before break and he knew we were getting it (because we had to get permission from him due to league rules) and he offered to have Riley come sign the jersey. Kase got him some cookies as a thank you.

It was just so nice of him to stop by and take the time to hang out with Kase.

Kase was SO happy and just in awe the whole time. Riley was so awesome with Kase and they had fun playing catch together for awhile.

Kase also thought it was pretty cool having his principal at his house!

Once Riley left, Kase couldn't get to his basketball games quick enough to tell all his friends about how he got to hang out with a real football player.  It was really cute.  Kase had three games and his team won all three! He played great and I just love seeing him have fun out there.

As soon as his tournament was done, the kids all went to my mom and dad's for a cousin sleepover.  At the last minute, Kael's friend's birthday party got changed to that night so Kael ended up missing out which he was bummed about and he felt bad but the rest of the kids all had a blast together! I was dying at this picture of Kylee all dressed up.

Sounds like they had a great time playing with Model Magic and just hanging out together.

Brooklyn had even made a cake for the occasion!

And Berkley brought craft masks!

I think they all got along really well and I'm so happy my kids have the chance to see their cousins as much as they do.  Meanwhile, Kent and I were out for dinner with Mandy and Justin and Tammy and Rob.  We had the best time catching up- what a great Christmas gift from my mom and dad to keep all the kids and send us adults out for dinner!

The next morning when it was below zero, I got this picture from Kylee asking to bring her ice skates over.  We had already left home so I didn't but she was dying to go all day!

Kent hung out for a little while then headed home to study. The kids all played for awhile before heading home.

Later that afternoon I loaded up the kids and headed back over to skate!

They all just love it over there.  Grandpa Terry never passes up the chance to be outside with his kids/grandkids!

We all went back pretty far on the ice and it was so nice out there.  As Kylee says, "That's just good for the soul." The wind wasn't too bad and it had warmed up a little so we ended up staying out quite awhile.  I was proud of how the kids could skate and how long they lasted out there!

We had some cocoa then headed home to watch the football games. Monday we had a nice lazy morning then Kael and I went to the gym.  Later we all went to Target as the kids all had birthday party gifts they needed to pick out.  After lunch Kael went sledding with his friend at Saylorville and I took Kylee and a friend and Kase to Urban Air.  It was busy but they had so much fun! We were there for a long time! When we got home Kent took the boys plus one of Kase's friends to the Jag/Hawk basketball games.  Kylee and her friend had volleyball.  It was such a great, long weekend and I'm looking forward to a short week!

Thankful Thursday

I'm thankful for times when I surprise the kids.  Last Sunday after the had already gotten in pajamas, it started snowing again.  The snow plows hadn't come through at all and looking out our front yard and down the street in front of our house the snow was perfect.  Not a single footprint was on it and no cars had driven on it.  I said something to Kylee about it being so tempting to just go and run out there to make the first tracks so she asked if she could and I said yes.  She was in shorts but threw on her boots and coat and took off running down the street.  Kase joined her and it was just so cute.  The two of them running around under the street lights joyfully making the first tracks.

I'm thankful for impromptu family trips to Target on a Tuesday night.

I'm thankful that Kael doesn't mind when I don't let him drive to school when it's icy or snowy out.

I'm thankful for our Trail Point membership.  I haven't been able to run outside lately and being able to go to the gym has been great.

I'm thankful that Kase gets to have a basketball "scrimmage-ament" this weekend! First time I've ever heard that word but the club evidently says if we call it a "tournament" they have to charge for people to come watch.  Whatever, but I'm just excited to get to see him play a few more games!

I'm thankful for trips to plan and time to plan them. Traveling and making memories with my people is my very favorite thing to do.

Happy Thursday!

Weekend Wrap-Up

Friday we finally got SNOW!

Kael was already getting out early because of semester tests.  He and Kent and I planned to go out for lunch but it ended up just being Kael and me going out because we had to hurry since Kase and Kylee were getting out early too because of the snow! Kael and I had lunch then got home in time for Kase to get home.  His buddies came over to play and have hot cocoa! A fun start to the weekend.

Kael got to bring home the cabinet he had been working on in construction class.  I'm so impressed with his work and I know he and Kent will have fun together finishing it. He's really proud of it.

Later that evening enough snow fell that we could go out and play!

Kylee made a Fox and Geese course right away!

So we all bundled up and ran out.  So much family fun.  We came in, made pizza, played games and watched a movie.  What a great night.

The next morning Kase got a haircut at a new to him place.  He LOVED it which was great, considering he had been not wanting to get his haircut!

Later Kent and I went to Campus Cycle with some friends for a group ride.  What a great workout! In the meantime, the kids went sledding.  Kent and I caught up with them on our way home.

We had a nice, lazy afternoon then watched the Vikings game and Kylee had a friend come stay over.  I took the girls to Target and Starbucks.

Sunday morning Kase was up early but the girls slept in.  Kent took Kase to watch his cousin and some friends at a wrestling meet.

Then we all headed to Kellen's 2nd birthday party! We had so much fun hanging out with her and the rest of the family.

After the party we hit the sledding hill! There wasn't a lot of snow and it was a little crowded but the kids still just had the best time.  I love watching them enjoy all the winter fun!

We swung by Smoothie King on our way home then they all headed right back out to work on a snow fort in the front yard.

Hope you all have a great week!
