Weekend Wrap-Up

We had a great weekend in Boston! I flew out Friday morning and met Kent, who had been there since Wednesday.  Such a cool view flying into the city!

After I dropped my stuff off at the hotel, we took a quick tour of Sam Adams.

Cheers to vacation!

Then we walked around the city a little.  The Boston Public Library was so neat.

And the Esplanade (river walk) was just gorgeous.

Then we headed to Fenway! This was such a highlight, you guys.

Front row! Our seats were incredible.

We even saw ourselves on the big screen! The weather was perfect and it was just such a nice night.  So cool to have been there!

The next morning we had a little time to wander around before breakfast.  Boston is just so charming.

Then we walked the Freedom Trail! Boston Public Gardens were absolutely stunning.  We stopped by this George Washington statue and sent a video to Kase, who had the sweetest reply- a quote from Hamilton.  It was awesome.

Tons of cool, historic spots.  Kent especially loved this one, where the Declaration of Independence was read aloud in public for the very first time!

Bunker Hill!

We had walked several miles that morning which was great because the weather was so nice and then we were ready for lunch! Kent had a lobster roll at this cute place in the harbor area.

Then we walked to Harpoon Brewery for a little refreshment.  This area had such a cool, hip vibe.

Next we headed to see Cheers!

It had been a full, awesome day at this point so we headed back to the hotel to relax for just a bit then got dressed up and ready for dinner in the North End.

We had so much fun walking around here before dinner, seeing the oldest restaurant and oldest tavern in the US.

This old brick street was so awesome!

This is where we ate dinner.  So thankful for Kent who had made reservations before time.  It was busy in the North End that night! The food was amazing, too.

We finished our night by stopping at Top of the Hub.  What a gorgeous view of the city from more than 50 floors up, seeing Boston all lit up at night.

We had such a nice getaway but were also so glad to hear from the kids back home. Kylee had such a fun time Friday night at the Drake volleyball game with her friends!

Kylee is part of Spike's Dog Pack (a camp she goes to at Drake) and they had a special event for all members after the matches.  Kylee and her friends got to have an ice cream social with the players!

She loved getting to hang out with the team.

Meanwhile, Kael was at a sleepover with a friend and Kase got to visit Kellen! Such sweet buddies.

Saturday Keith and Cindy took the kids to the orchard.  Looked like the perfect day for it!

They loved the new hay pyramid!

We got home almost in time for Kase's football game Sunday, which ended up getting rained out anyways.  We enjoyed spending the afternoon together, just hanging out, getting ready for the week.  We are so thankful for our village who helps us out so Kent and I can have fun little weekend trips like this!

Thankful Thursday

I'm thankful that something I bought at Target last week was still in the bottom of the cart in the parking lot when I went back for it after realizing I had left it there.  Whoops, Laura!

I'm thankful that Kael was excited about a book he read recently.  He knows how much I like to read and was so happy to have a good book recommendation for me.  I read it and loved it!

I'm thankful for Facebook memories.  I nearly died when this one came across from five years ago. Kase looks so little, sweet and innocent.

I'm thankful for family game night. So was Kase, as you can clearly see.

I'm thankful these two have fun in the back seat while Kael is driving!

I'm thankful Kylee is still loving cross country! Also thankful for awesome coaches and teammates.

I'm thankful for the beautiful fall sunsets and sunrises.  Kent has been riding his bike with me in the mornings while I run since it's usually still dark when I take off.  By the time we round the corner to home we often catch the most beautiful sunrise over a pond near our house!

I'm thankful for a weekend away with Kent and thankful for family to watch our kids.  It's going to be a good time!

Weekend Wrap-Up

Another fun, busy weekend around here!

Thursday Kael had a home game against Dowling.  He played great and his team won! A big thank you to Keith and Cindy who helped out with Kase while Kent had a library board meeting and I was running Kylee to and from practices.

It was another beautiful night at the fields and it's always fun to beat Dowling!

After the game we went to Sports Page- a lot of Kael's teammates were there and he had fun with his buddy.

Friday Kylee had her first social! A few friends came back to our house afterwards then they all went to the football game together.

Kael embraced the Beach Theme for the game!

Meanwhile, Kase was at the pumpkin patch with a friend. He had so much fun and I hear he impressed one of the moms there by singing along to all the words of a Hamilton song!

Cider slushies for some very sweaty boys!

Sunset s'mores.

Kael and his buddies went to the church for Junkyard 5th quarter after the game.  Kase and I went to Sonic with a friend- it was packed! Fun memories.

The next day Kael got invited to go to the Iowa State game with his friend and his family.  He had a great time! Meanwhile, Kylee got to go play with my niece, Brooklyn.  The girls had a great time together and I had a few minutes to catch up with Mandy when I dropped Kylee off so that was fun!

Kase had a buddy over to play, then relaxed with Kent.

Later that night we had planned to go to Adventureland for the Andy Grammar concert with friends but it was rainy, Kael ended up having a(nother) sleepover- this time at his friend's house, and Kylee was gone.  Kase didn't want to go anyways so we kind of had a lazy night around the house but finally got out to pick up a few things for an upcoming party and have Kase look at Halloween costumes.

Kylee had fun at her friend's volleyball birthday party!

Kent, Kase and I spent the rest of the evening at home and once the rain cleared we spent some time outside playing Glow in the Dark football.  Kase taught us some new rules about the game 500 which was hilarious.

Sunday morning Kent and I went for a walk between rainstorms, then headed to church.  Afterwards we picked Kael up and they all went to Collins while I got a few things done around the house.  We got tons of rain so Kase's football game was cancelled. Later the kids played with friends, Kylee had cross country and volleyball practices and then we finished up the night by having a family game night and making popcorn while watching the AGT finale.  What a fun weekend!
