Weekend Wrap-up

It has been the Longest Weekend Ever, no?

I'm not complaining- I just can't believe how much we've fit in over the last few days.  Here are a million pictures of it all.

Here, the kids were having so much fun together at the park.

This was Kylee and company being action leaders for preschool camp last week.  I was so happy to have her help out and so enjoyed her company each day.  She was great with the kids!

Thursday night we went out for dinner with the Brothers Patterson and their better halves.  What a great night we had downtown! We got absolutely poured on walking into Malo, but by the time we were done eating, the weather had cleared enough for us to take a walk on the pedestrian bridge. It was just a really fun  night.  Shout out to Keith and Cindy for hanging with the kids so we could go out!

Friday morning, Kylee spent the day with Cindy.  She had been looking forward to this day for a long time! Meanwhile, the boys and I ran some errands and picked up pizzas for lunch on the deck.

Kylee and Cindy got pedicures, played at the park, did some shopping and had lunch at Kylee's favorite restaurant- Leaning Tower! I'm so happy for both of them that they got a little girl time together!

Friday afternoon, Kent was home early so we took a bike ride to Hawkeye Park to go fishing, play tennis and play at the park. A fun start to the weekend! We came home to grill out, then Kent put American Ninja Warrior on the projector in our backyard! It was awesome!

Saturday morning Kent had Kase as his helper while Kael and Kylee were at triathlon practice.  The boys crossed a ton of items off their to-do list which always makes me happy.

Then, we packed up a picnic and headed to the Neal Smith Wildlife Refuge.  It was such a cool place! Kids had fun exploring then we drove around and got pretty close to some elk!

On the way home we stopped at the Riverwalk and park downtown.  Later that night Kent put Mario Kart on the Wii on the projector in the garage. Kids thought that was pretty cool!

Sunday morning we went boating.  It wasn't too warm out- certainly not typical July weather- but the kids didn't mind at all.  We had fun playing at the beach and Kael had a great time tubing.

Had lunch at a new restaurant in town with my family after boating. Yum! Kylee especially loved their chocolate chip pancakes!

Kylee spent the afternoon helping my dad pick raspberries (which was later turned into homemade raspberry ice cream), then when we went over to pick her up, Kent and my dad had this boat all blown up for the kids to play in the creek in! Super fun.

Sunday night was a neighbor friend's birthday.  We had fun celebrating, and we tried out a new game with these mouth guard things.  Hilarious.

Kase and his buddy, Will.
Monday morning we just hung out around home- several friends were around for the kids to play with and Kael and his friends started a game at the neighborhood Sandlot. Later, we grilled out for lunch with my family.

After that, Kent and Kael played frisbee golf, we set up the jumpy house in the backyard, had bomb pops, played bocce ball, played baseball, did sparklers and snakes, played football, took a bike ride to a park, had firework floats (Pop Rocks in ice cream) while watching fireworks from our deck.

I'm sad to report I didn't get a single picture of all five of us together today, let alone even a picture of my three kids together! Anyhow, pictures can make things seem like it was a perfect weekend, but amidst all the fun we had, there was plenty of bickering, a couple of burns (one on a finger from sparklers, and one near-burn from a wish lantern at the birthday party), a few goose eggs (Kase caused both of them, go figure) and truly, I'm a little anxious to get the kids back to a regular week. Even though we don't have too much of a routine in the summer, I'm ready to get back in our regular groove.

In the upcoming week, I'm watering a neighbor's flowers while they are out of town, fish-sitting for my niece and nephew, and also going to a friend's house to feed their cats each day. I love that we seem to be the go-to family to ask for things like that.  It's good to feel needed and good for my kids to have a little extra responsibility.

How was your holiday weekend?
