Weekend Wrap-Up

Happy Easter weekend! We had one of our most atypical Easters ever, but it was a good one and here's how we spent it!

Friday after school Kent and Kylee took off for Kansas City for a volleyball tournament.  I wanted to stay in town because I wanted to be around to spend time with my family since my grandpa had just passed away and I wasn't totally sure what the weekend plans would be.

Kent was such a good sport and even had one of Kylee's friend's and her mom ride along.  I had sent an Easter basket along to surprise Kylee for the car ride and it sounds like she and her friend had fun opening all the things.

Meanwhile back in Ankeny Kael, Kase and I tried a new to us Mexican restaurant then came back home for some twilight basketball. They had so much fun together.

Kase had a slumber party in my room that night and was up extra early the next day so we watched a full movie together before Kael even got up!

Kylee's team went 0-3 on the day but sounds like she played well and the team had some fun meals and a shopping outing together so it was all good.  The boys and I had lunch with my parents then went back to their house for a bit.  Later Kase went to a friend's house who had just put up their trampoline and they put a sprinkler under it since it was so nice out! He was there all afternoon and evening until bedtime! Kael went out riding around with one of his friends who had just gotten his license.  It was such a rare afternoon here- I sat on the front porch soaking up the sun and reading a book between watching Kylee's games online.

Easter Sunday Kase very patiently waited to wake Kael up. I can't believe he lasted until 9:00! We read books and looked at pictures of tennis shoes online.  Such a Kase morning.

Once Kael was up the boys had fun finding eggs and their Easter baskets downstairs. So strange not having Kylee and Kent there though!

We made pancakes and bacon and watched church online.

Meanwhile in KC, Kylee's team did an egg hunt and an egg cracking contest! I love that Kylee wanted to share this tradition with her team. Sounds like a good time was had by all.

After church we went to my parents' house for lunch with them and the Simms.  Mom and Dad had an egg hunt for the kids and of course we did the egg cracking contest too!

Kael won again this year!

Kael is such a good sport and big cousin.  At one point during the day Berkley came up to him and started talking and it was so cute to see the biggest cousin and the littlest cousin hanging out together.

We headed home after lunch and the boys wanted to relax- Kase had just added Huston on FortNite and they wanted to play for a bit.  I took a walk and watched Kylee's volleyball game online and you guys I'm so happy for her! She played well (a great block) and even had the game ending kill in the third set of a close one! And later, another game ending kill!

Later Keith and Cindy stopped by and Keith even played some basketball with Kase. The weather was so nice- the rest of us sat around chatting outside.  After they left Kase challenged me, then Kael to a one on one basketball game.  We came in for dinner then had a nice relaxing movie and popcorn night! I suggested the new Godzilla movie but the boys refused to watch it without Kent.  So we went with Harry Potter- we've been working our way through all of them since we were at Universal not long ago and it's fun to see them (again for some of us, others for the first time).

Hope you all had a happy Easter!
