Belize!

We had such a nice getaway last week to Belize!

We were up and headed to the airport early Monday morning.  We had a little extra layover in Dallas due to fog there, but made it to Belize City later that afternoon. From there, we took a little plane to San Pedro and this was our view flying in.  Gorgeous!

This was our little plane.

I was way in the back but Kent was near the front.

We landed in San Pedro and took a taxi to our water taxi.  We saw some fun things along the way!

And finally the beach!

This was the first view of our resort as we got off the water taxi.  Beautiful time of the evening!

We got settled in our room then had a lovely welcome dinner before heading to bed.

The next morning we were up early and started spotting little lizards all over.  It made us think of Kase and how much fun he had lizard hunting in Hawaii!

We watched the sunrise off the pier.

Coffee with a view!

There were these cute swings right outside the resort. Kent and I did sit on them at one point but it was when no one else was around so we didn't get a picture of that.

Here is our pool area.

We had a poolside breakfast, then the quickest meeting ever and then Kent and I got fishing poles and headed for the pier! They gave us shrimp from the restaurant to use as our bait.  I caught the first fish but that was mostly because Kent put the bait on my pole first.  He caught one right away too!

We had a lot of fun and caught probably 20 fish!

Then it was back up to the pool area for lunch and a quick swim.  Saw some more big lizards!

Then we took a golf cart into town to explore.

Such a fun, colorful place!

Then we stopped at the chocolate company and enjoyed the richest chocolate shake I've ever had.

We had a good time exploring but preferred the calmness of our resort to the busy-ness of the town so we headed back to catch the sunset off the rooftop of the restaurant then had a lovely dinner.

My best guy.

The next morning it was another beautiful sunrise.  I couldn't stop taking pictures of it.

Had some banana bread at breakfast and we had to take a picture to send to Kase since it's one of his favorite foods.

Then we set off for a reef fishing adventure! I could never get tired of seeing that beautiful blue water!

Our guide was very good and tried so hard to get us to catch some fish!

Finally the guide got one and Kent reeled it in.  Later, we didn't get a picture, but Kent caught a two and a half foot reef shark! We didn't catch as much as we had hoped but still had a nice morning out on the water.

We met up with some friends at the pool and decided to adventure to Secret Beach with them.

It wasn't much of a secret...

And we saw a crocodile on the way!!

The water was so clear and shallow for a long, long ways out. Truly beautiful.

We stayed there for a couple hours then made one more quick stop on our way back to the resort.

Rojo's was a fun place and there was this hilarious dog with it's ears dyed blue there.

We walked out on their dock to see fisherman bringing in their catch of the day to sell to the restaurant.  That was fun to see!

That night was our theme dinner.

We got to participate in the cooking! We made conch ceviche and also dessert. They had prepared the main dish and sides for us.

The coconut ice cream was amazing. We had such a fun night getting to know the people at our table and just had hilarious conversation all night.

Another gorgeous sunrise!

Kent and I had a snorkel trip planned this day.  We also got to go to Shark Ray Alley and honestly it was amazing.  These are all sharks! The pictures don't do it justice but there were huge nurse sharks all over and we just jumped right in and swam with them.

I am just dying at this fish that photo bombed Kent!

The swimming with sharks was memorable but the real highlight of the day was snorkeling at Hol Chan.  It is the second largest barrier reef in the world and it was just amazing. Our camera wasn't working really great when we were there but we saw an eel, beautiful spotted eagle rays, tons of gorgeous coral and colorful fish.

It was such a fun morning. That afternoon we went part way into town to this fun place called the Truck Stop.

There were a ton of hilarious signs on all the bathroom doors.

Kent and I played Connect Four and ping pong. We got some ice cream there too and it was so, so good.

Had fun snapping pictures of cute signs on our way back to the resort.

The next day we planned a fishing/snorkeling/beach barbecue with our friends.

First we fished for our bait! Had fun getting all these little sardines.

Then we started fishing! It was such a gorgeous day.

We had a lot of fun with this group of friends!

Right away our guide got some conch and we watched him clean them and cut them all up to make ceviche.

Our friend had caught a couple barracuda and I know Kent was hoping so badly to catch one too.  We all caught a few fish and most of us caught "keepers" but Kent got the biggest one of all!

A big barracuda!

We fished, snorkeled and swam, fished some more and just had such an awesome day. We got to dive down to some lobster "traps" and I carried a few lobster back to the boat!  Later the guides brought us to a beach where the cooked up all the things we had caught.  Fish, lobster and they also grillled a bunch of veggies.  So fun to see them! They were using palm branches and their kindling!

We decided to go out with the same guides again the next day because the guys were wanting to try spear fishing.  First we stopped at Mexico Rocks to do some snorkeling and that was beautiful! I saw the biggest lobsters I had ever seen in my life.

The guys all went out to try to spear something.  Our guide found and followed this hogfish and Kent got to see him spear it! Then Kent swam it back to the boat.  So cool.

The guides had told us hogfish are the best fish to eat so we took it back to our resort and had the chef cook it up for us all to share.

Awesome! He made a super impressive dish.

They had also let me keep a conch shell so I sent Kent down to the beach to clean it for me.

That night was our final night dinner. Our friend gave a lovely toast to Ted, we had great food and company. We enjoyed the live music too!

The next morning after breakfast we packed up and sat in the hammocks on the beach until our water taxi came.

When we got to our airplane the lady told me to go sit up front by the pilot! So cool!

We caught part of the Super Bowl game at the airport in Dallas, then got home around 11:00.  So awesome of the kids to have notes and a beautiful painting waiting for us! I couldn't wait to see them!

Here are a few things that happened around home while we were gone. We got a new nephew! Welcome to the family, Krue!!

Kids loved the photo books I left them as gifts.

Kylee had a volleyball tournament and they won!

The kids had some fun company.

And it sounds like they all got along great while we were gone.

A huge, HUGE shoutout and thank you to both of our parents for taking care of the kids while we were gone.  What a blessing knowing things were going so smoothly at home.  It made me able to relax and enjoy vacation even more! So proud of Kent for qualifying for this trip and love the life he provides our family.  We loved going and now we are already looking forward to the next trip we have planned with the kids!
