Thankful Thursday

I'm thankful for the best shopping buddy.

I'm thankful Kael made it home safely from school yesterday. The sirens went off about five minutes before dismissal time so the kids had to stay at school, huddled in the bathrooms waiting for the all clear signal. Kael got home about a half hour late!

I'm thankful Kent took the day off today and helped make it a fun First Day of Sumner Break for the kids, despite the dreary weather.

I am thankful for neighbors who are willing to share popsicles.

I'm thankful for fun last day photos.

I'm thankful for this ice cream dessert recipe I found on Pinterest.

I'm thankful I only got a sample of paint before fully committing to go with a color in my kitchen.

I'm thankful that you, dear readers, seem not to mind my grainy, out-of-order photos.

I'm thankful that my flowers have, thus far, survived the storms.

I'm thankful that I realized it's Thursday today in just enough time to write a post!

Happy Thursday!

School's out for the summer!

I don't know who is more excited for summer: Kael or me!

Here's the post about his First Day.   He has definitely grown up!

Here are a bunch of the neighborhood kids.  Hope we get a picture like this every year! The three on the top row are second graders, the first two kids on the left on the first row are kindergartners, and the next two will be in kindergarten next year.

We're ready for summer, are you???

Thankful Thursday

I'm thankful for neighbors who helped Kent haul our trampoline home the other night.

I'm thankful Kent was able to run over and secure the trampoline to a park bench so it didn't blow even farther away...

I'm thankful for Kent's iPhone photos.

I'm thankful Kase has transitioned to a new car seat.

I'm thankful for the long weekend ahead.  Just wish the kids didn't have to go back to school at all afterwards!

Have a great weekend!

Weekend Wrap-Up

This weekend is near the top of my list as  far as favorite weekends go.  We didn't go far or spend a lot of money. We didn't have a lot on the calendar but we enjoyed a lot of quality time together, which is a dream come true as far as I'm concerned.

Friday night we took a long walk around the pond across the street and played at the park for awhile, the weather was beautiful, the neighbors were all out too, and everyone was happy. Kael played basketball with a couple of the neighborhood dads and later one of them told me, "He is one of the politest kids I have ever met. Just such a nice kid." Is there anything a mom loves to hear more than that?!

My fun-bullying ways have started to rub off on Kent because while Friday night was lovely and relaxing, by late Friday evening he said, "We should do something fun tomorrow. Like go to the High Trestle Bridge or go to Saylorville or The Ledges or something." Music to this fun bully's ears. He threw out the idea to go pick up donuts and head out to the lake, which I loved. We were all up early on Saturday morning so we hopped in the truck and didn't tell the kids what we were up to. I *heart* surprising them. After a quick stop for a "white circle one with frosting" (Kael), the "one with the most sprinkles I could find" (Kylee), one without frosting (Kase), one chocolate with chocolate frosting (me), and one with nuts (Kent, who later admitted, "I got distracted by the fact it had nuts on it and didn't even pay attention to what kind of donut I was getting! I didn't mean to get one with vanilla frosting!), we went out to Cherry Glen and found a picnic shelter where we could enjoy our breakfast. We played at a park there for a little bit then I drove the truck around to the next park while Kent and the kids rode in the back of the truck.  Perhaps you don't agree with that parenting decision but it was early and no one else was on the "road" if you can even call it that! We used to ride in the back of my grandpas truck siting in lawn chairs and I turned out fine. The kids thought it was the greatest thing ever. We are such city folk. ;)

Soon we made our way down to the water to skip rocks. The kids edged their way closer to the water and eventually were knee deep splashing around. Kase was about as happy as I've ever seen him.  A couple walked by and smiled at our early morning impromptu "swim" saying, "these are the things your kids will remember".  Kylee must have agreed because she kept saying, "This morning is perfect.  Just perfect."

Back home Kylee and I went for a bike ride while Kase slept and Kent helped Kael with a school project. I was so thankful that Kent was able to work with Kael and they created a pretty cool Power Point!

Next we went to Kael's baseball game and both my parents and Kent's parents were able to join us. Kael had a great game and we went to Dairy Queen to celebrate.

Thanks to my mom for taking pictures!

After DQ a classmate of Kael's was playing at the park so Kael invited her and her brothers over to jump. I was talking to their mom who told me, "you know, a few months ago my daughter asked if she could walk down to Kaels house to play. She had never asked to play with a boy before..." While I am hoping to steer Kael away from all the "he/she likes so-and-so" discussions that float too frequently around his classroom, I am happy for him that a girl feels comfortable enough with Kael to seek him out and see if he can play.

Shortly after they left I thought Kylee was going to die from the heat. "This is like the hottest I have ever been in my whole entire life," she declared in a familiar (as in, like me) melodramatic tone. So we busted out the slip and slide and invited a few neighbors to join in the fun.

Can you even believe we had this much fun before the weekend was half over? After the water fun, yet another second grader was at the park so he came over to jump on the trampoline with Kael.

Kase took a long afternoon nap and Kent had time to mow, weed eat, and fertilize the lawn.

We wrapped up the evening by making homemade pizza and playing at the park.

Sunday morning my dad texted early asking if we wanted to go for a boat ride, which we did.  We had a lovely drive to Big Creek and back. :)

Kent did a few garage projects, we played outside some more then Kent grilled burgers for lunch, and headed to dance practice (I just love saying that.  Kent is doing a Daddy/Daughter dance for Kylee's tumbling recital so he has to go practice every so often. I love it). While he was gone the kids watched a movie and Kase slept.

Sunday afternoon we headed out to the park and ran into some friends. Their son came to play Wii with Kael for awhile then we decided to turn sprinklers for all the kids to run through. More neighbors joined in soon. I knew Kael and Kylee would have fun with sprinklers but I couldn't get over how much Kase loved it. He was right in the mix with all the big kids just cute and happy (and tan!) as could be.

Sunday night a huge storm rolled through and we were completely, admittedly unprepared. The trampoline blew over the fence but luckily Kent and some neighbors were able to get it home before it could blow farther or do any damage to anyone else. One of the arms that holds the protective net up is awfully bent but the trampoline itself seems to be intact. Whew! The kids were so worried as the storm grew more and more fierce but remained impressively calm. When Kent ran out to save the trampoline I overheard Kylee praying, "God please help my dad be safe out there and help him work quickly so he can get back inside. A trampoline is just a thing but family is what matters." Wise beyond her years, that one.

In the meantime Kase fell down and bit his tongue hard. You know the kind where the blood is so dark and thick it looks purple? Poor guy.

Even though the end of our weekend was pretty intense, I still consider it a fantastic weekend. How was yours?

Kylee's Graduation!

Oh, Kylee.

She was so, so excited for her preschool graduation today.  And rightfully so- it was a big day! I feel like the school year went so fast, but looking back at her picture from the first day of school, I can see she has really grown up in a year's time.  She is such a happy, confident young lady and I always find myself thinking, "Wouldn't life be so fun if you were Kylee?" because Kylee is fun. She's absolutely magnetic.

She picked out my dress, shoes and jewelry for the event, hoping I would be "the fanciest mom there". Fancy as I was, I'm not sure how effortlessly I pulled off the look as I walked into the room juggling a diaper bag, two camera bags, and a 22 pound toddler who was trying to squirm out of my arms.  :)

I was so proud of Kylee as she walked across the stage for her diploma.  Kindergarten, get ready for Kylee!

First day of school

Last day of school

Kase was capturing the attention of all the other moms before the ceremony started with his big brown eyes, "monster" cheeks (someone else's words, not mine) and fake coughs. :)

Have you heard the song "Tooty-Ta"? Hilarious.

Thankful Thursday

I'm thankful that Kase slept through the night! Twice in the last week! From 8:00-5:30!!!

I'm not sure anything can top that, but I'll keep going. :)

I'm thankful for the messenger bag I dug out from my "Spain" tub the other day.  I carted that thing all over Europe and can't figure out why I have kept it stashed away for the last nine years.  It's the perfect bag for me to use this summer- it will fit tons of stuff in it without looking too much like a diaper bag.

I'm thankful that Kase didn't get his shots the other day.  I'm not so thankful for the reason behind missing the shots though: another ear infection.  I'm thinking a visit to the ENT isn't too far away.

I'm thankful the warm weather seems like it's here to stay!

I'm thankful that my mother-in-law could come last night for Kael's baseball game.  She also brought dinner and a beautiful planter of flowers for me! Jackpot!

I'm thankful for the pansies (that I didn't plant) that appeared by my front step this year.  They are beautiful and completely accidental.

I'm thankful that my mom invited me along to Goode's Greenhouse the other day.  I had never been and now I totally get it.

I'm thankful for a little bit of a summer glow.  Although Kase and Kylee are already rockin' a mid-summer's tan.

I'm thankful Kent and I are back to our morning workout routine.  He goes to the gym early, then I run when he gets home and we're both showered and ready for the day before Kael and Kylee get up.

I'm thankful it's Thursday.  How about you?

The weekend in pictures

Kase is asleep so I'm going to try and hurry to get this posted before he wakes.  In other words, I apologize that the pictures are in no particular order and some of them are a bit grainy from the ol' iPhone.  But you guys, it was SUCH a fun weekend! A zoo field trip, a baby shower, a fun afternoon in Collins, Mother's Day, a belated birthday celebration, a little fishing...check it out!

Kase will not waste a single bite of macaroni.

Playing bongos at the zoo in the new Africa exhibit! I was so happy I got to go along on the Field Trip!

Shooting off Mentos geysers has a way of drawing a neighborhood crowd.

Family fun in Collins!

Just hanging out on the roof.

A little fishing.

Kase loved it!

Tammy's baby shower day! I'm sure she'll write more about it and post more pictures on her blog, so I'll link up when she does.  But it was such a fun day! Love hanging out with my sisters and Mom and can't wait for Tam to join the "Mom" club!

A picture of all the cousins that came to the shower.  Kylee was so excited to get fancy for the shower that she even wore blue eye shadow because, "The baby's going to be a boy, you know."

I have been trying since Kase's birthday to get a picture of Kase and Kael standing next to each other.  I have visions of taking a picture of them side by side every year on their birthdays to see how much Kase catches up to Kael.  :) Kael wasn't excited about the photo and Kase kept running away.  Finally when Kase stood still for a second, I said to Kael, "Quick! Stand just like Kase is!" So he did.  Hilarious.

They can't wait to meet their new cousin!

The older three cousins sit so nicely...

Is this how your Mother's Day pictures looked? :)

Kase was loving the cake.  Sidenote- how tan is he already?! Come on!

We celebrated Mother's Day/belated birthday for my Mom at Wig and Pen on Sunday.  We had called ahead to reserve the room which meant we could shut the doors and let the kids run crazy.  It was AWESOME! Plus, Mandy had called ahead to order the pizza so we didn't have to wait to eat.  We had such a nice time.

Kind of wish I would have known that Mandy hid in this picture.  I inadvertently photo bombed this Grandma/grandkids picture. :)

Grandma and the boys.

The whole crew!

Whew! Success! Kase is still asleep.  I feel so blessed- what an amazing Mother's Day weekend.  Kent and the kids made my day so special.  They gave me the sweetest cards and most thoughtful gift (a basket of my favorite things). Kent set a crazy high standard of taking care of the kids- he fed Kase at Wig and Pen then took him for a walk so I could enjoy my meal and chat with my family, he changed all of Kase's diapers for the day, he let me pick every.single.thing we did that day (family rollerblading, fishing, planting the garden...).  I hope that I can treat him as well on Father's Day as he did me on Mother's Day.  Kylee also wanted to spoil me- she wouldn't let me carry a single thing all day.  "Mom, come on! It's Mother's Day! You don't have to carry that.  Let me get it!"  I am one lucky gal.
