Happy birthday, Kael!

15, you guys.  Fifteen years old.  How is that even possible?

This will undoubtedly go down as one of Kael's most strange birthdays.  This whole Coronavirus pandemic has us not being able to celebrate in large groups which means both family and friend celebrations are pushed back until probably summertime.  And Kael hasn't complained one bit.  He's such an easy kid to please- when we started talking about how he wanted to celebrate his birthday since there's no school, restaurants still aren't open and we can't get together with anyone besides our own family, Kael was quick to reply that it was no problem.  In true teenage boy fashion, nearly all of his requests revolved around food.  Donuts for breakfast and pizza for dinner and he's happy.   The only other thing he really wanted was a trampoline which I know he would love but I'm also just certain Kase would hurt himself frequently on it if we had one.  I'm not sure I'm up for the risk!

Orange you glad it's your birthday?!

A family member recently told me that each time they see Kael he gets a little taller and his voice gets a little deeper and it's so true! Right now I hear him singing to himself in the other room and I hardly recognize the deep voice.  He's changing so much so quickly right now.

In the last year, Kael has found a really good friend group and I just couldn't be happier for him.  Before COVID-19 brought things to a screeching halt, Kael and his buddies were having sleepovers every weekend.  And when they weren't having sleepovers they were at football games together, having backyard bonfires and playing Pokémon Go. Any time they've been at our house I have enjoyed them being around.  They're polite when they talk with me and they even include Kase when they are out playing.

Kent and Kael continue to be the best of buddies.  I can't add any relevant comments to their WWE discussions so they're lucky to have each other.  They can talk about weightlifting and enjoy going to the gym together. Speaking of, Kael is getting so, so strong.  I'm so proud of how he's continued to get a workout in each day around home since the gyms are all closed right now.

One of Kael's favorite things to do right now is do wrestling moves with Kylee and Kase.  He picks them up and throws them all around and I just love hearing the laughter coming from his room.  He is so proud of how strong he is and he should be! He was an especially big help when Keith and Cindy moved to town a few weeks ago.  He was able to lift and load so much and was such a good sport about making several trips back and forth to Collins with Kent.

Kael has been such a safe, responsible driver and I know it makes him feel good that he's the only one of his buddies to have his school permit and his own car! I love having another driver in the house! I asked him the other day what the best thing about being 14 had been and he said being able to drive.  He really does a good job.

Kael is so grown up but is so willing to do stuff with the family even though he's kind of outgrown some of the kid stuff.  The other night before Easter Kase and Kylee wanted to do a sleepover so Kael let them stay in his room.  Kase and Kylee brought in an air mattress, bean bags, the whole works and I know teenage Kael would have probably preferred to have his room to himself but they had a great time.

I love finding ways to connect with Kael. He's been teaching me all about Pokémon Go and is so happy when I get a great throw or catch something cool. We have fun walking to Georgetown together at least twice a day to spin Poke-stops and I enjoy chatting with him on the way over and back.  He's a lot of fun and just really a good kid.  I have no doubt that year 15 is going to be as great for him as this last year has been.  Can't wait to spend the day celebrating my Kael buddy!
