Weekend Wrap-Up

We're coming off a loooooong weekend, friends.  And I'm not complaining! Kael slept in until 11:15 today if that tells you anything about how fun our weekend was! He's such a tweenager.

I'll start with Wednesday.  We let Kael and Kylee stay up super late. Kent's slow pitch game didn't even start until 9:15! I stayed home with Kase while he slept and a good friend came here to hang out with me- so good to catch up with her for awhile!

We've been fitting in lots of bike rides! Not in this picture, but Kylee has been testing out bigger bikes and is even able to ride mine around!

Friday afternoon my parents took Kase along with them to do a few errands.  The big kids and I went to the pool while he was with them and it was so strange being at the pool without Kase! I even packed a magazine along to look at- ha!

Friday evening we went up to Summerfest to eat and ride a few rides.  The kids had some of the worst lemonade ever so they went back to the stand and told the guy how sour it was- he thanked them for coming back and offered them free lemonade for the rest of the night once he fixed it! They were in heaven!

The kids were so fun and so very thankful about riding the rides.

Saturday morning was the parade- Kael walked in it with his soccer club.  The rest of us watched from our usual spot- thanks to my mom putting blankets out the day before! We have the best parade spot! Grabbed lunch at Godfather's before heading home to relax a little before the cardboard boat regatta.

Kent and the other Edward Jones people from Ankeny served watermelon during the regatta- it was a hit!

We had quite a crew watching the regatta.  The kids loved it and also loved watching the giant bullfrog that kept hanging around in the pond right in front of us.

Saturday evening we grilled out here with Keith and Cindy then Kael went to a sleepover.  Keith and Cindy stayed here with Kylee and Kase and had a movie night while we went out with a few friends.
Sunday morning Kent and Kase prepped ribs for our neighborhood's Smokefest!

Then we all headed to celebrate my nephew, Huston, turning 3!! It was a great party- the kids always have so much fun together!

Later that afternoon we rode bikes up to Family Fun Day- a new event at Summerfest.  It was totally worth going- the kids had some fun races and games to play then we headed home to relax before Smokefest.

Kylee had so much fun making these brownie kabobs.

Smokefest is so fun at our neighborhood!  This was our third year doing it and every year it gets a little bigger.  More neighbors, more food- it's just so much fun.  The kids love that we have the street blocked off so they can ride their bikes and scooters in the road. There were also neighbor fireworks and even snow cones! It's fun that the older kids help organize games for/with the younger kids- a big game of Drip, Drip, Drop (like Duck, Duck, Goose with a sponge) was going on for most of the evening.

After we're all done eating it's starting to get dark we all set chairs up in the street and watch the fireworks.  They were so good this year! What a fun tradition.  Summerfest weekend is always a great one and I'm thankful my kids are growing up and making these awesome memories with neighbors and friends!
