Weekend Wrap-Up

How was your weekend? Did you survive the time change? Our kids have been getting up super early lately anyways so it didn't affect us too much this year.  Here's how we spent our weekend!

Thursday evening we went to the volleyball game to cheer on the Jags! They play again tomorrow night to see if they go to state- we have so much fun supporting our neighbor who is the head coach. Shortly before we left for the game, we found out we had been "Boo-ed".  The kids were over the moon.  There were lots of fun treats and it got the kids even more excited for Trick-or-Treat (if that's possible)!

Friday morning, everyone was up early. The kids opened some Halloween treat bags from my mom, then Kael was off to early band.

Since we were up so very early, Kase and Kylee painted teal pumpkins (for our friends with allergies) to set out on the porch with our candy.

I also attempted a fun spider web dip.  Looks festive, tasted not so great.  I accidentally bought some guacamole that had loads of cilantro in it and it was super strong.  Oh well!

I had lunch with Kylee at school on Friday, then when she came home that day, she was bursting with exciting news.  They earned a class party AND she got picked to be Star Student of the Week next week! She got right to work filling out and coloring her special poster.

Then we got ready for Trick-or-Treat.  We always have a great time with our neighbor crew!

We let Kael go with his friends this year, which he was so excited about.  Kase lasted until about 6:40, and Maleficent (with her own homemade horns, I might add), lasted the longest.

Once we were all home and in pajamas, the candy trading was ON! What a fun night!

Saturday morning Kent went into work for a little while.  The kids and I cleaned the house, then just had a lazy day- they got out their sleeping bags even and had a little mid-day slumber party in the living room.  It was cold and gloomy outside so we spent the rest of the day just watching the Hawks (8-0, baby!) and hanging out.

Sunday after church we had lunch with my family, then went out to walk around my mom and dad's backyard.  The weather was so perfect.  Hard to believe it was November 1!

A neighbor kid of my parents' recently found this deer skull in the backyard- Kylee was not at all afraid to hold it.  Eeek!

We headed back home, kids played outside with neighbor friends for quite awhile, then Keith and Cindy came and we rode bikes to Kase's beloved "Small Monkey Bar Park", which is what he calls the park with monkey bars that aren't very high up and he has been able to do them for a long time.  Kael had basketball practice, then we spent the rest of the night cheering on the Royals! Kael especially has had so much fun watching this World Series.  It was a great weekend! We have a busy-ish week ahead, with something going on nearly every evening.  Hoping to spend most of today outside enjoying the weather!!!

Weekend Wrap-Up

Oh, how I love weekends.

Friday was Kent's last day of work at his previous job (he started his new endeavor this morning) so a bunch of co-workers and Kent went out to celebrate Friday afternoon.  He left many fond memories and wonderful people, but we are both very excited about his new opportunity.  After the well-wishes, Kent came home and we had a family movie night.  Kylee is going to be Maleficent for trick-or-treat and we hadn't ever actually seen the movie so we watched that.  Kael and Kylee got such a kick out of how Kase said, "Fla-micalent" instead of Maleficent.

Saturday morning we spent prepping for the party! Kent cleaned the garage and mowed, I tackled the inside of the house, and before we knew it, the house was filled with family, ready to surprise Keith for his 60th birthday! We had a great evening celebrating!

Sunday at church Kase sat quietly on my lap the.whole.time which indicated to me that he wasn't feeling great.  He took an early nap, then we just kind of bummed around.  Later in the afternoon we carved and painted pumpkins which the kids loved! Kael also had his first basketball practice.

We have a fun week ahead at preschool with our Fall Party and other pumpkin activities.  Kent will have a busy week with work and Kael starts early band.  How was your weekend?

Weekend Wrap-Up

Thought I would share some pictures of the kids' pumpkins this year and some more Halloween fun.

We also ran into this little Royals guy at the library Trick Or Read. :)

I made the kids some fun Ghosts in the Graveyard snacks after school.

I have never really been one to love Halloween, but I do LOVE, LOVE, LOVE trick-or-treating with this crew!

Also made them some Monster Face Donuts for breakfast.

This has been my view for weeks now.  Kase wants to play football all.the.time.  "Mom, can you tackle me?"

When we're not playing football, we're out playing trucks.

Now, onto a quick recap of the weekend. Friday night we went out for dinner downtown with some friends.  We really appreciated Keith and Cindy coming down to hang out with the kids!

Saturday morning Kylee and I met up with my sister and mom at the craft show in town.  So fun-would have loved to have spent all day there! It did, however, inspire a little craftiness in me- so Kylee and I worked on a project later that afternoon.

We also spent the day watching the Hawks play at some friends' house.  It was a great day. Later we borrowed my parents' backyard for a quick fall picture.  And I mean quick. My parents weren't even home and we were on our way somewhere else, so the kids jumped out of the car, ran to the backyard to the exact same place we had taken the picture last year, sat down, smiled, I took two pictures and they hopped back in the car.

After the picture, we visited my grandma, whose birthday is this week.  She asked us to stay for a little pizza party and the kids had a great time.  So good to see my grandma happy and feeling well.

Sunday, we had our usual pancake breakfast, although we would have loved some donut balls (ha!!!;) then off to church.  Then we went out for lunch with Kent's parents.  Later that afternoon, I had a coffee and Christmas planning date with my sisters then that evening we spent running around my parents backyard.  The kids had fun collecting hedge apples and rolling them on the bridge.

And now for my annual narration of how productive I am on Daylight Savings Time.  My kids get up early and even if they go back to sleep, I'm awake.  This morning, before 7:00, I had worked out, dusted and vacuumed the entire house, made homemade bread, done two loads of laundry and prepped these ribs for dinner tonight.

How about you? Did your kids wake up super early too?

Have a great week, guys!

Sneaky Fun

We woke up this morning with no real plans.  I had high hopes of tackling some laundry and dishes.  But one of my neighbors has a fun phrase for days like the kind of day my day ended up being.  The other day I asked her how their weekend had been and she replied, "It was great, kind of sneaky fun, you know? Like the kind where you didn't make any fun plans but the days ended up being really fun anyways? The best kind of days."

Kylee remembered that it was a neighbor's birthday so she got to work early making a birthday picture to deliver.  Upon leaving, she discovered that we'd been Boo'ed! Kase had taken a long nap (just for your reference- anything longer than 20 minutes qualifies as a 'good' nap in Kase world, and anything past 45 minutes is considered 'long') so we threw caution to the wind and headed to Target (I know, we're so crazy, right?) to pick up some fun stuff to Boo our neighbors.  I have been meaning to get Kase's pictures taken since he was three months old, ahem, nearly three months ago.  So I threw in some extra clothes and called Target on the way their to see if we could, by chance, get a couple pictures of him taken while we were there.  And he was awake.  And happy.  They had an opening right away- perfect!

So we got a few cute pictures of Kaser (I am dyyying to get them back so I can show you how much he looks like Kael at this age), picked up some fun Halloween treats and headed home.

Kylee was totally into Boo-ing our friends.  Here she is practicing her spook face.

We got home and had fun assembling and delivering the treats, then it was time for Kase's lunch.  It was his first time trying carrots and I vividly remember my other two hating carrots so I wasn't expecting him to love them either.  I could not have been more wrong.  The newly acquired skill of sitting combined with his sheer excitement over the carrots nearly caused him to topple out of his chair.  As soon as I got one bite in his mouth he opened up wide for the next bite.  Kylee and I were cracking up and when he saw us laugh, he got the hugest smile on his face. It was hilarious and adorable all rolled into one little messy package.  It was that moment that made me wish I owned some sort of voice-activated-camera-strapped-to-my-head device so that I could capture the moment without getting carrots all over my phone or missing the moment by the time I drag out my big camera.  Surely they make things like that, right?

Carrot face.

Today I managed to get out a few more fall decorations today as well as FINALLY find something to contain all of Kylee's hair stuff.  That has been on my list of things to do ever since I could put her hair in a ponytail oh, three years ago.

I also tried a new recipe from Pinterest: Creamy Chicken Taquitos, which I consider to be doubly successful because 1) I actually tried a recipe from Pinterest and 2) all four of us ate it.   Tonight was also the first night we really ate together as a family of five because Kase has just started on real foods, but it seems he always needs to eat at random times between bottles and tonight that time feel at our regular supper time.  It was really nice and I'm looking forward to many more dinners as a Party of Five.  :)

Later in the evening I was going to go running.  Really, I was.  It was just that the people who Boo'ed us brought the good kind of candy.  And I don't even really eat much candy.  But there were Snickers.  And Twix bars. And they were delicious.  All six or seven of them that I ate. So I'll start tomorrow I guess.  Famous last words, right?

Kase was even more excited about the Halloween candy than I was.

As I tucked the kids in bed they begged to read one story even though it was already way past bedtime.  I agreed and smiled at their choice of books- they both had chosen their photo books I made for them from last year.  Snuggling in bed looking at some of our favorite memories together was a great way to spend my evening.

Lastly, I rocked Kase to sleep.  It's not something that I ever get to do.  But he's been different lately.  Happier.  More snuggly. And I'm just not about to miss out on a moment like this.  So as I sat in the rocking chair with a sleeping baby in my arms, I thought about what my friend said.  About sneaky fun.  I smiled to myself in the dark, knowing exactly what she meant.
